Bodegas Pedro Benito Urbina
2011 Urbina Blanco
Wine information: Bodegas Urbina is a small, traditional and family-owned Rioja wine estate. This single estate is located in Cuzcurrita de Rio Tiron on the north-western boundary of DOC Rioja. Urbina has 75 hectares of vineyards at two main vineyard sites - the first site is at Cuzcurrita de Rio Turon, an area well-known for producing Riojas capable of ageing for many years ideal for Gran Reservas. The other vineyards are located at Uruñuela, in the heart of the Rioja DOC, which consistently produces wines of great quality and body. Four generations of the Urbina family had dedicated themselves to producing Rioja wines and, following in his father’s footsteps, Pedro Urbina is the current wine-maker. In 1976 the family took the decision to bottle and age all the wine made themselves, rather than selling grapes to other wine producers, and the single estate Urbina Rioja wines were created. Since then Urbina has gone from strength to strength. A new winery was designed and built by the Urbina family at Cuzcurrita in 1986 and there has been a large investment in modern equipment, stainless steel tanks and a bottling plant. Bodegas Urbina produces Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva and white and rosé wine, all made from grapes sourced from their own vineyards. The vineyards are cultivated using traditional methods, harvesting is by hand and there is little, or no, use of weed killers and pesticides. Additionally all fertilizer used is organic. Only local / indigenous yeasts are used in the wine-making process which help to give Urbina wines their unique personality. This white Rioja is made from 100% Viura grapes.

2012 Fuentespina Rosado

The Ribera del Duero is blessed by a combination of terroir, microclimate and a native grapes that gives superb, complex red wines. At this altitude Tempranillo gives thin-skinned and refreshingly acid fruit, which in turn gives wines that are delicious also when they are young , like this Rosé. WINERY AND VINEYARDS: Bodegas Fuentespina, S.L. was founded in 1994, we purchased the old cooperative of Fuentespina (Burgos) renovating completely the winery with the most modern equipment. We started to make a very exhaustive selection of the grapes and to use the most modern advanced techniques of elaboration, becoming one of the most important wineries of the area in a short time, basically for elaborating excellent wines with the best price. We control 385 ha of vineyards on small plots in the prestigious area of Ribera del Duero (20 ha. of the are more than 90 years old) with limited yields. We make a deep control and tracking of the vineyard before the growth cycle starts. Methods like the green pruning and harvest, permit a better ventilation of the vine, providing the stocks of small bunches with bigger skins than must. In our barrel hall we age the wines n different types of oak casks (American, French and East- European) of the prestigious firm Seguin Moreau, Radoux and Cadus to obtain a different character in each style of wine elaborated. ELABORATION: The grapes used in the elaboration of this wine are rigorously controlled for hygiene standards, quality, acid content and pH value.
